A COMPLETELY UNTOUCHED AS FOUND ENGLISH RAPIER. BY REPUTE, FOUND IN A HOUSE IN NORTH YORKSHIRE. DARK HEAVY BROWN PATINA OVERALL. THE WOODEN GRIP LONG SINCE ROTTED AWAY. 970 MM LONG BLADE. FULLER FOR THE FIRST THIRD WHICH HAS THREE SETS OF PIERCINGS. CLAM SHELL TO THE CENTRE OF THE GUARD WITH CHISELED DETAILING. LARGE OVAL COUNTER WEIGHT POMMEL. THIS SWORD COULD BE STRIPPED, CLEANED, AND A NEW GRIP MADE. THIS WOULD MAKE A GOOD EXAMPLE OF A RARE ENGLISH RAPIER, BUT HOW OFTEN DOES ONE ENCOUNTER A SWORD OF THIS PERIOD WHICH HAS REMAINED IN UNTOUCHED CONDITION FOR SUCH A LONG PERIOD OF TIME. NO DOUBT USED THROUGHOUT THE ENGLISH CIVIL WAR.
