OF THE 50000 GUNS MADE, AROUND 40000 WERE MADE IN 1918 MAKING EARLY EXAMPLES SUCH AS THIS QUITE RARE, ESPECIALLY AS MANY OF THE EARLIER GUNS WERE LOST / DESTROYED IN BATTLE. A MOSTLY MATCHING GUN, THE LOCK A PERISHABLE ITEM REPLACED IN ITS WORKING LIFE. EARLY EXAMPLES PRE-1917 HAVE THE DATE AND MAKER DETAIL TO THE FUSEE COVER, THE TOP COVER ONLY MARKED “MG.08″. THE GUN HAS BEEN PAINTED IN THE FIELD OVERALL WITH A CAMO FELDGRAU PAINT FINISH. THE TOP COVER WITH A REGIMENT / UNIT MARK, BUT HARD TO READ UNDER THE FELDGRAU PAINT. BARREL JACKET WITH A BRASS UNIT MARK TO THE 3RD M.G. COMPANY. GUN IS MISSING THE MUZZLE BOOSTER, OR GLAND. THE TWO BRUSHES FOR THE REAR GRIPS AND THE FRONT SIGHT. DEAC TO UK SPECĀ  AND CAN BE STRIPPED, COCKED AND DRY FIRED.
