MAGNIFICENT HUSSARS ARMOUR HELMET, PROBABLY FLEMISH CIRCA 1630. THE CROWN WITH FLUTED SURFACE WITH ROPE EDGING TO THE HIGH POINTS. TAIL WITH THREE LAMES AND STUD WORK. ROPE EDGING FRONT AND BACK. ADJUSTABLE NASAL BAR WITH PIERCED TOP. LONG EAR FLAPS OF THREE INDIVDUAL LAMES. PIERCED TO THE EAR. THE LEATHER FOR THE FLAPS PERISHED, AND THEY ARE CURRENTLY BEING HELD ON BY STRING. HEAVY DARK PATINA. HELMETS SUCH AS THIS WERE PURCHASED BY THE ROYALIST FOR THE ENGLISH CIVIL WAR, PARTICULARLY FROM THE NETHERLANDS.
